Why GSK?

Uniting science, technology and talent to get ahead of diseases together.

GSK is a global biopharma company with a special purpose – to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together – so we can positively impact the health of billions of people and deliver stronger, more sustainable shareholder returns – as an organization where people can thrive. We prevent and treat disease with vaccines, specialty and general medicines. We focus on the science of the immune system and the use of new platform and data technologies, investing in four core therapeutic areas (infectious diseases, HIV, respiratory/ immunology and oncology).

Our success absolutely depends on our people. While getting ahead of disease together is about our ambition for patients and shareholders, it’s also about making GSK a place where people can thrive. We want GSK to be a place where people feel inspired, encouraged and challenged to be the best they can be. A place where they can be themselves – feeling welcome, valued, and included. Where they can keep growing and look after their wellbeing. So, if you share our ambition, join us at this exciting moment in our journey to get Ahead Together.

Department Description

This role is in the department of Discovery Biology and Screening (DBS). As part of early drug discovery at GSK, DBS applies various technologies to identify and profile novel small molecules, antibody-drug conjugates, and oligonucleotides for a variety of diseases and target biology.

As a result of this internship, the student will be able to complete experiments from assay design and optimization to data acquisition and analysis. This experience will broaden the student's knowledge base in cell biology, cell signaling, while enhancing critical thinking, problem-solving, and presentation skills. This intern will be a mutually beneficial experience, providing the student with valuable skills and knowledge, while also advancing our department's research capabilities. We look forward to welcoming a motivated and dedicated student to our team.

Job Description

Biological systems consist of heterogeneous cell types, each with diverse functions and metabolism profiles. This complexity has resulted in adverse effects in clinics which limit drug development and clinical application.

This internship aiming the pre-clinical safety assessment is an exciting opportunity to learn the crosstalk of cell biology, physiology in early drug discovery and gain exposure to multiple different areas of biology. The student will work side by side with GSK scientists to design, develop and execute the high content platforms applied to diverse disease indications. There will be a specific focus on literature studies, experiment design, data analysis and high throughput assays. Students will also enhance their critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills.
