Department Description

The OSD/MDI Value Stream team in Zebulon is a critical part of the manufacturing network at GSK, responsible for ensuring high-quality, efficient production processes that align with GSK’s goals of Zero Accidents, Zero Defects, and Zero Waste. The team drives operational excellence through the GSK Production System (GPS), focusing on safety, quality, and productivity improvements for life saving drugs for our patients.

Job Description

What will you do?
We are offering a unique learning opportunity for a Value Stream /Production Intern to gain exposure to GSK’s manufacturing operations by shadowing Production Operators and First Line Leaders. The intern will engage in key activities that support day-to-day operations while learning about GPS principles and contributing to the team’s objectives.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shadow Production Operators and First Line Leaders to understand equipment operations, cleaning, and replenishment activities in alignment with cGMPs, SOPs, and safety standards.
  • Train in GSK Production System (GPS) tools and concepts, including 5S, Standard Work, Problem Solving, Gemba walks, Process Confirmations, and Performance Management.
  • Participate in basic problem-solving activities (steps 1-3), learning to identify, document, and escalate issues affecting safety, quality, and performance.
  • Assist in maintaining Operational Standard Work (OSW) and 5S in designated production areas.
  • Support the team in performance management data entry, tracking, and analysis to monitor key metrics.
  • Learn and observe equipment setup, changeovers, and batch start-up processes under supervision.
  • Gain familiarity with production systems and applications, such as SAP and other operational tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for waste reduction and process optimization.
  • Understand and support inspection readiness and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 12-week internship (May/June - August 2025).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in manufacturing operations, operational excellence, or process improvement
  • Understanding of basic lean principles, including 5S and problem-solving
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and a general comfort with learning new systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take ownership of assigned tasks

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Benefits

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position. 
  • GSK Interns and Co-ops are offered a competitive hourly pay rate and benefits. Please note, benefits eligibility determined the month following date of hire.
  • This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.

    In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

    • Pay Rate Range: $21/hr to $40/hr
