Department Description

The Utilities Department is the technical resource for the design, installation, qualification, maintenance, and improvement of utility systems located at the GMS Rockville Site. The Utility department is responsible for the lifecycle management of utility systems used to support bio/pharmaceutical manufacturing operations; including but not limited to purified water pre-treatment and generation, clean steam, clean gas, compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, electrical panels, diesel generators, clean room air handlers.

Job Description

The Utilities Engineer Intern is responsible for learning/understanding utility equipment operation, and the science behind the design of such equipment.  It is important for the individual to have an engineering background that will enable sound decisions and understand the impact of those decisions on the production process and business.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering, with a preference area of study in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6 month co-op (June ~ December 2024).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable to learn/manage projects to completion on time and within budget.
  • Must be able to interact well with peers and senior personnel in scientific, engineering, and operational disciplines.
  • Ability to work as a member on cross-functional and self-directed work teams.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Candidates who are hired for an on-site role and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location are eligible for relocation stipend.
