Department Description

The US Process Analytics group is part of the GSK Research and Development division and is responsible for developing mechanistic, data-driven, and hybrid models to support the design and development of pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals for both drug substance and drug product. This position is in the Process Analytics group of the Medicine Development and Supply department, located at the Upper Providence site.

Job Description

The summer intern will be part of a team developing advanced predict-first approaches to accelerate development, increase fundamental understanding, and deliver more robust processes for small molecule drug product. 

 

Key learning opportunities will be:

  • Perform experimentation and data analysis (e.g. physical properties testing, microscopy, process analytical technology) to support mathematical modeling or classification analysis for small molecule sterile drug product development operations.
  • Use engineering, chemical, and/or biological knowledge to postulate mechanisms for chemical processes under study.
  • Apply data and digital analytics principles to progress project development as needed.
  • Work closely with US Process Analytics team members to integrate experimental workflows with process modeling approaches according to Quality by Design principles.
  • Regularly update manager on progress made on research topic and document results / analysis in reports.
  • Comply with GMP requirements for recording experiments, documenting simulation work, and writing reports, including scientific review and data checking.
  • Comply with the requirements of Quality, Safety, and GSK policies and procedures and ensure that GSK intellectual property is protected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in a relevant STEM field (Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering) or similar disciplines.
  • Research or lab experience with an understanding of basic lab etiquette (safety, documentation, protocol execution, etc.)
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12-week internship (May/June - August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming experience using languages such as Matlab, Python, R, C, etc.
  • Prior internship experience would be a plus.

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend.
