ViiV Healthcare is an independent, global specialist HIV company dedicated to delivering innovative new options for the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS. ViiV Virology is a multidisciplinary in-house organization which spans the end-to-end discovery framework: target identification / validation / optimization, pre-clinical testing, and justification for candidate selection / conduct of clinical trials in humans.

Job Description

We are seeking summer intern in the Branford, CT site who is interested in contributing to the discovery of next-generation anti-HIV bio-therapeutics, in particular broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), through the development and troubleshooting of biochemical, biophysical and functional assays, and using these assays to characterize and select potential drug molecules. The selected candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter and will have the opportunity to work alongside antibody engineers, protein scientists, virologists, and chemists in a dynamic and multidisciplinary team environment.

 

The position will allow the selected candidate to:

  • Apply knowledge in protein biochemistry, biophysics and mammalian cell biology to support drug discovery at ViiV.
  • Engage and network with scientific leaders in drug discovery across ViiV R&D.
  • Present and report their work within ViiV R&D.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BA or BS in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field.
  • Basic laboratory experience.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12-week internship (May/June - August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with biochemical and/or biophysical assays.
  • Track record of collaborating in a team-based environment.
  • Attention to detail. Excellent documentation, organization, data analysis and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and excitement for drug discovery related technologies.
  • Direct experience with protein related assays would be a plus.
  • Direct experience with automated instrumentation would be a plus.

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend.
